How a Charleston session works

1

Request

Drop a pin where you already are and pick a length, from 5 minutes to a full hour.

2

Track

A nearby photographer accepts and heads your way. You watch them arrive on a live map.

3

Shoot and receive

Photos are taken in the app and land in your album as they are shot. Rate your photographer, tip if you loved it.

If nobody near your pin is available, the request expires on its own and you are not charged. Worth knowing in this town specifically: the peninsula is small and slow to drive, so a pin south of Broad and a pin on Daniel Island are very different asks even though they look close on a map.

Where in Charleston

You set the spot, so a request can start anywhere in the area. The names people use are South of Broad, the French Quarter, Ansonborough, Harleston Village, Cannonborough-Elliotborough, Radcliffeborough, Hampton Park Terrace and Wagener Terrace on the peninsula, then Mount Pleasant, West Ashley, James Island, Johns Island, Daniel Island, Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, Park Circle in North Charleston, and out to Summerville.

Charleston spots that photograph well

The practical note: public streets, sidewalks, and public parks are fine for a short handheld session. Plantations, formal gardens, and other ticketed grounds outside town charge admission and most of them have separate rules or fees for a photo session. Check before you plan one there.

What people shoot in Charleston

Vacation and family photos

You flew here, you are all together for four days, and every picture on your phone is missing whoever took it. That is the whole problem OfMe exists to fix. Twenty minutes on the Battery or on Sullivan's is enough for a set you will actually print.

Proposals

Charleston runs on them. Waterfront Park, the Battery at dusk, the end of the Pitt Street Bridge. The advantage of an on-demand photographer is that nobody is standing around with a tripod telegraphing the whole thing for twenty minutes beforehand.

Engagements and anniversaries

The alleys downtown do more work in ten minutes than an hour anywhere else. Chalmers, Philadelphia Alley, Stoll's Alley, then out to the water.

Bachelorette weekends

King Street, a rooftop, or the pastel houses. Group photos are the one thing a phone at arm's length genuinely cannot do, and a five or ten minute session is priced for a group splitting it.

Maternity

Marsh, water, and low light in the last hour of the day. Pitt Street Bridge and the quiet end of Sullivan's are the two locals name first.

Dogs

Hampton Park, the beach off-season, or Shem Creek. Note that beach dog rules change with the season and the town, so check Folly, Sullivan's and Isle of Palms separately before you plan around it.

Content days

If you make things for a living, this city is a free set. Colored doors, painted walls, and eight blocks of variety inside a fifteen minute walk.

Your photos are yours. Full stop.

OfMe photographers shoot inside the app, so every frame lands in your album as it is taken. Every photo is encrypted in transit and in storage. Photos are never saved to the photographer's camera roll, and the instant your session is delivered our servers revoke their access, so the photos stop being viewable in their app. No stranger walks away with pictures of your family. That is not a policy we wrote, it is how the system is built. More on that in our Privacy Policy.

Charleston questions

Can I book an OfMe photographer in Charleston today?

Not yet. OfMe is coming to the App Store and Charleston is one of the first areas we are opening. We are not publishing a launch date until we can hold it.

Which parts of the area can I request from?

You set the pin, so anywhere from South of Broad to Mount Pleasant to Folly. Whether a photographer accepts depends on who is available near that pin at that moment, which is the honest answer for any on-demand service.

I am visiting for a weekend. Is this useful?

It is the exact case the product was built for. You are already standing somewhere good, you do not know a photographer here, and nobody wants to be the one holding the phone. The photos are in the app before you walk to dinner.

How much does a photo session in Charleston cost?

From $9.99 for 5 minutes to $64.99 for a full hour, the same as every other OfMe area. That is the standard price list. Requesting one specific photographer by name costs 1.5 times the list price, and extending at the end of your session is priced at 10 percent off the extra time.

Can I shoot at Rainbow Row or the plantations?

Rainbow Row is a block of private homes, so shoot from the public sidewalk and keep it short. Plantations and formal gardens charge admission and most have separate rules or fees for a photo session. Check first.

When is the light best?

Sunrise over the water at Folly, Sullivan's and Isle of Palms, since those beaches face east. Sunset over the marsh at Pitt Street Bridge or over the harbor from the Battery. June through September, skip the middle of the day.

Does the photographer keep my photos?

No. Photos never reach their camera roll, and their access is revoked the moment your session is delivered. See Support for how delivery, refunds, and reporting work.
