How a Charleston session works

If nobody near your pin is available, the request expires on its own and you are not charged. Worth knowing in this town specifically: the peninsula is small and slow to drive, so a pin south of Broad and a pin on Daniel Island are very different asks even though they look close on a map.

Where in Charleston

You set the spot, so a request can start anywhere in the area. The names people use are South of Broad, the French Quarter, Ansonborough, Harleston Village, Cannonborough-Elliotborough, Radcliffeborough, Hampton Park Terrace and Wagener Terrace on the peninsula, then Mount Pleasant, West Ashley, James Island, Johns Island, Daniel Island, Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, Park Circle in North Charleston, and out to Summerville.

Charleston spots that photograph well

• Rainbow RowThe pastel block on East Bay everybody comes for. They are private homes, so shoot from the sidewalk, take five minutes rather than thirty, and do not sit on the steps.
• The Battery and White Point GardenLive oaks, cannons, and the harbor behind you. Late afternoon light comes across the water and it is the one place downtown with room to stand back.
• Waterfront Park and the Pineapple FountainThe postcard shot, and busy for exactly that reason. Early morning is a different park entirely.
• Philadelphia Alley and Stoll's AlleyNarrow, cobbled, brick on both sides. These alleys are why a five minute session works downtown: two people, one wall, done.
• Chalmers StreetCobblestone, painted shutters, and no cars if you time it. Bring shoes that survive it.
• Hampton ParkThe biggest park on the peninsula, with roses in spring and oaks the rest of the year. This is where locals do family photos rather than fight the tourist blocks.
• Pitt Street Bridge, Mount PleasantThe old bridge remnant out into the marsh. Sunset here is the best free thing in the county and it faces the right way for it.
• Shem CreekShrimp boats, boardwalk, and dolphins if you are lucky. Good for a group that wants a photo and then wants a drink.
• Folly BeachThe pier, the dunes, and the Washout. Sunrise over the water, because the beach faces east, which is the opposite of what most visitors assume.
• Sullivan's IslandWide quiet beach, the lighthouse, and the sand path over the dunes. Less crowded than Folly on a summer Saturday.
• Wonders' Way on the Ravenel BridgeThe pedestrian lane, the cables, and the city behind you. A long walk, so pick the longer session or start close to the Mount Pleasant end.
• Cannonborough-ElliotboroughPainted single houses, murals, and the corner shops on Spring and Cannon. The version of Charleston that is not on the postcard.

The practical note: public streets, sidewalks, and public parks are fine for a short handheld session. Plantations, formal gardens, and other ticketed grounds outside town charge admission and most of them have separate rules or fees for a photo session. Check before you plan one there.

What people shoot in Charleston

Vacation and family photos

You flew here, you are all together for four days, and every picture on your phone is missing whoever took it. That is the whole problem OfMe exists to fix. Twenty minutes on the Battery or on Sullivan's is enough for a set you will actually print.

Proposals

Charleston runs on them. Waterfront Park, the Battery at dusk, the end of the Pitt Street Bridge. The advantage of an on-demand photographer is that nobody is standing around with a tripod telegraphing the whole thing for twenty minutes beforehand.

Engagements and anniversaries

The alleys downtown do more work in ten minutes than an hour anywhere else. Chalmers, Philadelphia Alley, Stoll's Alley, then out to the water.

Bachelorette weekends

King Street, a rooftop, or the pastel houses. Group photos are the one thing a phone at arm's length genuinely cannot do, and a five or ten minute session is priced for a group splitting it.

Maternity

Marsh, water, and low light in the last hour of the day. Pitt Street Bridge and the quiet end of Sullivan's are the two locals name first.

Dogs

Hampton Park, the beach off-season, or Shem Creek. Note that beach dog rules change with the season and the town, so check Folly, Sullivan's and Isle of Palms separately before you plan around it.

Content days

If you make things for a living, this city is a free set. Colored doors, painted walls, and eight blocks of variety inside a fifteen minute walk.

• Card payments only. Your card is authorized when you book and charged when your photos are delivered.
• Tips are optional and 100% of a tip goes to the photographer.
• Cancel free while we are still searching. After a photographer has accepted, a $5 late cancellation fee is recorded on your account, because someone has already started heading to you.
• Pro Camera, a session shot on a photographer's own professional camera, is in development and is not bookable.

OfMe photographers shoot inside the app, so every frame lands in your album as it is taken. Every photo is encrypted in transit and in storage. Photos are never saved to the photographer's camera roll, and the instant your session is delivered our servers revoke their access, so the photos stop being viewable in their app. No stranger walks away with pictures of your family.
